VHEMBE Stars Academy are bracing themselves for a fight for survival away from home when they face Central Region Soccer League title chasers Chapungu on Wednesday.
This match was originally scheduled for Matchday 19 but was postponed due to Defence Forces celebrations, in which Chapungu participated.
The Greens head into this decisive encounter under immense pressure after suffering a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Sabi Gold Mine.
Vhembe Stars occupy 16th position on the log, which is a relegation-zone spot and sit just two points behind FC Platinum U19 and Dulibadzimu United.
A win against Chapungu could push them into a safer position, as every point matters in their bid for survival.
However, a defeat could see the Beitbridge side remain under pressure in the relegation zone.
Chapungu, meanwhile, arrive in strong form, having been beaten only three times in their 19 matches.
Chapungu sit in fourth place, two points behind West Nicholson, five points behind Kwekwe United and eight points behind leaders Blanket Mine, who have played 20 matches unbeaten, dropping points only through draws.
Meanwhile, coach Paul Mugabiri was left frustrated by the loss against Sabi Gold Mine and is looking forward to seeing his boys redeem themselves in the upcoming match against Chapungu.
His troops could come out all guns blazing against Chapungu as they look to strengthen their hopes of avoiding relegation and bring joy to their fans.
“In our last match, we failed to secure points. We need to concentrate on this coming game. We need all three points,” said Mugabiri .
The exciting Vhembe Stars Academy forward Davies Nyamukondiwa has been one of the outstanding performers this season, registering five goals.
His creativity and clinical finishing could help Vhembe Stars Academy bounce back to their winning rhythm.
