SHEUNESU Runhare has been crowned champion of the Alpha Zero Pool Tournament champion after defeating Esau Chadakufa on Sunday morning.
The tournament was held at the well-layed, properly-built and colourful Alpha Zero whose neon flowers light up the skyline in Beitbridge.
The Alpha Zero Bar tournament spead across two days and ran from Saturday, 15 August until it to shut down at 3am Sunday, August 16.
The event was sponsored by Beitbridge veteran Dr Chamunorwa Chagonda as part of his birthday celebrations and also as an initiative to promote the activities of the Beitbridge Pool Association.
Runhare walked away with $1000 USD and a Glenfiddich 21-Year-Old whisky as the 2026 champion.
Chadakufa as runner-up, walked away with $400 while, Francisco Lunga finished third and secured $250 USD plus a Johnnie Walker Black Label.
Quinton Matiyashe finished 4th and received $150 USD plus a Johnnie Walker Red Label.
John Bunjira famously known as the Baptist, Behaviour Makuvaza, Lloyd Mapanzure and Marcus Sithole finished 5th to 8th and each received $50 USD.
Behaviour Makuvaza, who finished 6th in this 2026 tournament, was the 2025 champion.
He failed to defend his title but managed to remain in the top 8.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Lovemore Kashiri, also known as Captain Venyika in the Beitbridge pool fraternity, said the tournament was proudly sponsored by Dr. Chagonda as part of his birthday celebrations and as an initiative to support pool development in Beitbridge.
“We are very pleased with this year’s tournament. It is an initiative sponsored by Dr. Chagonda as part of his birthday celebration, and also to promote pool in Beitbridge,” said Captain Venyika.
Captain Venyika said that the tournament had 80 participants, made up of both young players and elders.
He further said that this year’s pool tournament featured many young boys and the goal is to keep them engaged and entertained so they stay on track and avoid drug use.
