Residents of Ward 3 in Beitbridge Town have prioritised street lighting for the 2026 municipal budget.

This was among other challenges they face in everyday life and hey said how improved services could make a real difference.

During consultations held at St Joseph Primary School, Church of Christ (White Lodge area), and Blooming Roses in Mabidi area, Councillor Takavingei Mahachi noted that while attendance was modest, the concerns raised were pressing and reflected the needs of the wider community.

“Residents expressed the importance of street and tower lighting, explaining that better illumination would improve safety at night, reduce crime, and create spaces where children can play safely after school,” he said

He also said reliable access to water was another key concern.

Communities called for the solarization of existing boreholes, highlighting that consistent water supply is essential for daily living, and household chores,” said Mahachi

He further said residents in Mabidi and Siyoka also requested connections to potable water and additional borehole facilities to meet growing demand in their areas.

Road infrastructure was another priority, said Mahachi.

Residents explained that grading and surfacing roads would improve mobility, reduce wear and tear on vehicles, and ensure easier access for emergency services and school commutes.

The lack of well-maintained roads currently limits economic activity and daily convenience for many households.

The community also raised the need for safe recreational spaces, particularly playgrounds for children, emphasizing the role of such facilities in promoting physical activity, social interaction, and community cohesion.

Meanwhile, the maintenance of public toilets, especially at Siyaso , was highlighted as vital for hygiene and public health, reducing the risk of disease in crowded neighborhoods.

In response, Councillor Mahachi said the Municipality of Beitbridge assured residents that, depending on available funds, efforts would be made to address these priorities.

“These are the 2026 Ward 3 priorities, and the municipality is committed to providing maximum services to our people within the resources we have,” he said.
