Zimdancehall Legend ,Winky D has literally made the people’s choice award and the National Arts Merit Awards his own, scooping his ninth award of the same category at the NAMAs held over the weekend.
The popular artist achieved the feat in style at the awards held at Harare’s Hippodrome.
Winky D Born Wallace Chirumiko is a Zimbabwean reggae-dancehall artist, popularly known as Gaffa. He is also known for his hits songs such as Disappear and Twenty five.
By securing his 9th people’s choice award, Winky D becomes one of the most successful artist at the biggest arts awards in Zimbabwe which encompasse all forms of art.
The award highlights the popularity for an artist who sometimes faced airplay blackout for his socially rich lyrics which fortunately resonate with the masses hence the award.
Recently Winky D released an EP, which is making waves in and around Zimbabwe. The 6-track EP has already sky rocketed to the top of the charts in under 24 hours, further cementing Winky D’s popularity.
