A Beitbridge woman has secured protection from her husband after telling the court he assaults her, mocks her over their dead child and turns their home into a drinking and drug den.

Nomatter Masamba approached the court seeking relief against Claudius Mutero. The matter was heard by Provincial Magistrate Mbonisi Kaweni. Mutero did not show up despite being served.

Masamba said Mutero repeatedly assaults her and insults her in public about their child who is now deceased.

She told the court he also brings friends home to drink and smoke dagga, making the house unbearable.

She said she once had him arrested, but the abuse continued after his release.

Magistrate Kaweni barred Mutero from assaulting Masamba, from insulting her in public and from smoking dagga at their house or bringing friends to do so.

Masamba was advised to have Mutero arrested if he continues smoking dagga or to get a police officer’s contact number to call when it happens.

The order will run for five years.
