The Telkom Netball League Division One fixture between Zimbabwe’s representatives the Zambezi Eagles and Gauteng Jaguars was cancelled yesterday following challenges encountered by the Gauteng Jaguars team.
According to the SABC,this follows a formal complaint from Jaguars to Netball South Africa, expressing their dissatisfaction with the living conditions at Sun City, highlighting issues with substandard accommodation since the tournament ‘s kicked off on Saturday, 26 April.
Yesterday morning, the Jaguars departed for their game which was scheduled for 09:00 against the Baby Proteas, only to return to rooms that were already checked out. They were left stranded for hours which hindered their ability to thoroughly prepare for their second and final match of the day, scheduled for 19:00.
Meanwhile the Zambezi Eagles will battle Eastern Cape Aloes this morning. After that, the will battle the Baby Spar Proteas later in the evening at 1700hours.
The match between the Zambezi Eagles and Baby Spar Proteas is one the most anticipated fixture of the day as the national teams’ developmental sides lock horns representing the future of netball in the two Southern African neighbour’s.
