Harare-Zimbabwe Football Association has gone developmental for the upcoming CHAN qualifiers after naming a squad primarily composed of U23 and U20 players along with four senior players.

Coach Takesure Chiragwi will be in charge of CHAN qualifiers and his team is set to begin training in Harare on October 22nd.

Troubled former Caps United Captain Godknows Murirwa is amongst the four senior players who will part of the squad

According to ZIFA, the squad selection has been influenced by the need to develop players who will feed into the Warriors squad with the U20 Young Warrior, Highlanders forward Prince Ndlovu and some of his mates’ part of the squad.

Fans have had their say in the selection and coaching set up questioning the ideal of coaching staff ,questions on whether Michael Nees will be part of those directing the squad to develop a well new balanced football style for the Warriors new generation .

However many of the fans have been supportive of ZIFA going developmental for CHAN qualifiers however the exclusion of the warriors fringe goalkeeper Martin Mapisa has raised eyebrows as to why they excluded him when he is the second goal keeper for Warriors.

They have cited this as a missed opportunity to give Mapisa a chance to shine and develop into a credible goalie that can easily take over from Sekuru Gudo, Washington Arubi.

“The idea of developing is very thoughtful but they over cooked it, they should have taken the players who are haven’t started for the Warriors to improve them, why is Martin not in that squad for God’s sake he is our backup goalie, also why taking Murwira who has already a known starter for the Warriors,” said one concerned Warriors fan.

The Warriors CHAN squad will be preparing to battle against Eswatini in Francistown, this coming weekend.
