The Zimbabwe Football Association has stood  firm in protecting match officials from all forms  of abuse across the football fraternity following recent incidents across Central Region Soccer and Premier Soccer League matches.

ZIFA reminded all stakeholders across the football fraternity of the fundamental values and sportsmanship.

“The Zimbabwe football Association wishes to remind all stakeholders across the football fraternity , players, coaches, club officials and the general public of the fundamental values that underpin our beautiful game, sportsmanship, mutual respect and the preservation of the dignity for all involved;

Recent incidents have brought to the fore the urgent need to re-emphasis these values. Football is a powerful tool for unity, inspiration and national pride. It is incumbent upon every participant and stakeholder to conduct themselves in a manner beffiting the spirit of the game…,” the Association stated.

In line with the safety of the match officials, ZIFA reiterates it’s zero tolerance stance to all forms of verbal or physical abuse of match officials, as the officials  are entrusted with enforcing the laws of the game and must be afforded with respect and protection in their roles.

In addition, ZIFA stated that disagreement with match officials must be never used as a justification for any unruly conduct and ZIFA will never hesitate to allow the  full weight for the law to take its course against those found in breach of acceptable conduct.

ZIFA has thus  called on supporters, players and community leaders to play their role in promoting a respectful and safe football environment.
