A day of exceptional talent was showcased as representatives from Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces gathered for the NASSAF 2026 Competitions on September 23 at St Mary’s High School in Beitbridge.
The event featured a wide range of activities, including modelling, science and robotics innovations, quizzes, poetry, spelling bees, Olympiads and a Marimba contest.
During the modelling competition, girls walked confidently in glamorous heels, showcasing their beauty, confidence and talent.
The event also featured a colourful display of African-inspired designs, with girls dressed in traditional attire representing cultural diversity and African identity.
Speaking about his experience, Sean Sheren from Mashonaland West, who participated in the boys’ modelling competition, said modelling is sometimes viewed as simply an activity, but the competition had given young people an opportunity to build confidence.
“Modelling for boys is often deemed a mere activity to do, but today we had a great experience as young people showcased their confidence in the activity, proving that anything is possible if the belief is strong,” he said.
The entertainment continued with a performance by Harare Province’s Pam’s Band, which kept the audience on their feet and singing along.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Bradley Kaguna, a representative of Pam’s Band from Masvingo Province, encouraged young people to pursue music and work hard to develop their talents.
“Youths should keep putting effort into music.”
“Being in a band is not a poor profession, but a way to earn a living if taken seriously. It can also provide an alternative to drugs,” he said.
As Day One came to a close, the audience looked forward to the final day of the competition, with participants expected to continue showcasing their talents across the various categories.
