BEITBRIDGE Mission Primary School has received a major boost to its digital learning programme following the refurbishment of its computer laboratory by Zimborders under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.



Zimborders donated 25 desktop computers for the laboratory and two computers for the administration block, as well as two fire extinguishers

The also saw the installation of a new ceiling, lighting system, air conditioning units, doors and fresh interior paint.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Beitbridge Mission primary school headmistress Mrs Monica Ndlovu  said the upgraded facility would improve access to technology and enhance learning outcomes.

“Previously, we had only 20 computers serving classes of about 40 learners. The additional equipment will allow up to 40 pupils to use the laboratory at once, significantly improving the student-to-computer ratio,” she said.

She commended Zimborders for its continued support, noting that the company donated 133 pairs of school shoes to learners earlier this year.

ELCZ Education Secretary Mrs Tumisang Thabela thanked Zimborders for investing in education and supporting the government’s National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

“We appreciate this partnership and hope it continues, as there are still many needs within our schools. This investment will go a long way in helping our learners thrive,” she said.

Zimborders Employers Representative Mr Trevor Ncalo said the refurbishment was aimed at preparing learners for a technology-driven future.

“We are living in the era of artificial intelligence. Learners should use this facility as a gateway to opportunities and acquire skills that will prepare them for the future,” he said.

Zimborders General Manager Mr Nqobile Ncube described Beitbridge Mission School as a vital institution that provides opportunities for all children, including those with special needs.

The school has an enrolment of 1,222 learners, comprising 555 boys and 667 girls, including 53 learners with special needs.

School authorities said the upgraded laboratory is expected to improve digital literacy and equip learners with skills required in the modern world.

Beitbridge Mission Primary is one of the four oldest primary schools in the border town of Beitbridge and boasts of having enrolled most influntial people if today including Vice President Kembo Mohadi.

It also boasts of having been the first school to intergrate special education studens and the ordinary in Matabeleland South.

It has arguably the largest enrolment in Beitbridge and is a landmark in the education landscape of Zimbabwe.
