GREAT Zimbabwe University (GZU) is hosting a physical facilities assessment visit by the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) as part of the accreditation process for new academic programmes.

The visit, running from December 15 to 19, forms part of GZU’s application for accreditation for more than 50 new programmes under the Education 5.0 framework.

The current visit is focusing on 16 programmes, with earlier ZIMCHE assessments having evaluated other proposed courses.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, GZU highlighted the purpose of the visit.

“The ZIMCHE delegation is here to assess the adequacy and suitability of our infrastructure for programme delivery, including lecture rooms, laboratories, libraries, specialised equipment, ICT infrastructure and other learning resources,”read part of the statement

The delegation, led by ZIMCHE Chief Executive Officer Professor Kuzvinetsa Nzvimbo, is engaging both academic and administrative staff in structured sessions using the ZIMCHE Physical Assessment Instrument.

The programmes under review cover undergraduate and postgraduate courses across Medicine, World Heritage and Sustainable Development, Commerce, Science and Technology, Environmental Studies, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Human Rights and Applied Ethics.

The assessment is scheduled to end on 19 December 2025, after which ZIMCHE will use its findings to inform accreditation decisions for the new programmes.
