In an unusual twist, police in Mashonaland Central are searching for a senior officer accused of vanishing with a marked patrol vehicle from the force’s own headquarters.
Assistant Inspector Mandizvidza is alleged to have driven away a Ford Ranger, fully branded in Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) colours, from the Police General Headquarters (PGHQ) in Harare. The incident has triggered a province-wide manhunt and intensified road checks.
An internal memo dated August 13, reveals that the Mazowe district police commander has ordered all stations to mount roadblocks, carry out patrols, and be prepared to intercept the vehicle.
The memo further states that Mandizvidza is believed to be hiding in Mashonaland Central and should be arrested immediately and handed over to CID Bindura.
“May all stations in Mazowe district be on the lookout for ZRP Ford Ranger Reg 033 with police colours being driven by Assistant Inspector Mandizvidza… If located, arrest and detain for CID Bindura,” the directive reads.
Authorities have not explained how the mid-ranking officer managed to remove the patrol vehicle from one of the most secure police facilities in the country.
