The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a public warning, urging Zimbabwean citizens to exercise caution when responding to job and dating advertisements on social media after a 21-year-old woman from Chipinge was raped by a fake businessperson she met through a fake job ad on social media.
Circumstances are that on March 25, 2025, a 21-year-old woman from Chipinge responded to a social media ad seeking a shop attendant.
The suspect, a bogus employer with no business operation, lured the woman under false pretenses before sexually abusing her.
ZRP emphasizes verifying the authenticity of employment opportunities and the credibility of individuals. With unemployment high in the country, desperate job seekers are falling prey to scammers in search of elusive jobs.
