A Beitbridge woman has been granted a five-year protection order against her abusive husband.

Lmnyakha Mlilo appeared before Magistrate Mbonisi Kaweni seeking protection from her husband Awelani Nguluvhe, whom she described as abusive and threatening, particularly when under the influence of alcohol.

In her application, Mlilo told the court that Nguluvhe frequently insults her and threatened to destroy property at their home.

She alleged that whenever she confronted him over another woman, he would verbally abuse her and insult her parents.

“He is doing as he pleases where we are currently residing. He threatens me using dangerous weapons like axes, and he threatened to chase me away from our home,” she said

Nguluvhe failed to appear before the court, leading to a default ruling in favour of Mlilo.

Kaweni ordered Nguluvhe to stop insulting Mlilo and refrain from destroying property.

The order will run for a period of five years.
