The much anticipated 24 nations draw for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to take place today in Morocco.

The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that the AFCON draw will be held at the Mohammed V Theatre in Rabat.

“Draw to be held on Monday, 27 January 2025 in the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat at 19h00 local time (18h00 GMT/ 20h00 Cairo time,” the CAF statement reads.

The 24 qualified teams will be drawn into six groups each containing four sides, with host nation Morocco seeded at the head of Group A.

 Zimbabwe are in Pot 4 along with their counterparts, Mozambique , Comoros, Tanzania, Botswana, and Sudan.

The host nation Morocco were seeded in Pot1 along side, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire

The Indomitable lions of Cameroon are in port 2 alongside Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo and Burkina Faso

Gabon are in Port 3 with Angola, Zambia, Uganda, Equatorial,Guinea and Benin.

The remainder of the qualified teams will be placed in Pots 1-4 based on their FIFA World Ranking as of 2024.

Meanwhile, all the coaches  from the qualified 24 nations attended a one day workshop in Rabat, where crucial details about the tournament were being discussed yesterday, 26 January 2025.

Some of the gathering‘s main goals included issues around team hotels, transport, match day logistics, the match schedule, and to introduce the coaches to the new concept of ‘Team Base Camps’, as well as distribute them among the 24 nations via a draw.

The AFCON draw will be conducted tonight and many football fans around the continent will be looking forward to be in groups with better oppositions.
