Beitbridge chefs brought out their best cuisine as they battled in the district’s Amai Cookout Competition, championed by first lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa.
Fourteen contestants from various areas within the district came to showcase their culinary skills,vying for the grand prize that will allow them to represent Beitbridge district at provincial level of the same competition.
Nyashadzashe Zinhumwe emerged as the winner of this year’s district competition out cooking 13 other chefs.
In an interview with Ziyah News, she attributed her success to meticulous organization and preparation of her traditional recipes.
Zinhumwe expressed her motivation to succeed stating, “I am very glad to have won this competition against my fellow contestants. Having won the Beitbridge district, my goal now is to win the provincials and then aim for the national title. National and provincial, I’m coming for you.”
All 14 contestants presented a variety of traditional dishes, highlighting the rich culinary heritage of the rainbow district representative of the whole country.
The competition which is a brainchild of the First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, serves as a platform to showcase cultural diversity, celebrate traditional foods, promoting gastronomy tourism in the country.
Since its launch in 2019 , the program has gained traction and was subsequently handed over to the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry following it’s success and adoption by most African countries.
