Beitbridge councillors were called out in public by Minister Mavetera over the weekend at the ICT expo for failing to mobilize their constituents to attend the digitalization event.

Many individuals from various companies attended the ICT Expo to showcase their products, including representatives from Zimra, Telone, Zimboaders, Nyaradzo, Econet, ZETDC, Pepsi, Zimpost, Municipality of Beitbridge, Doves, Zimbabwe Immigration, and NSSA but the general public was conspicuous by its absence which led to the Minister questioning the local leadership.

Three councillors from ward 3 and two proportional representative ones, were called by Minister Mavetera to the podium and asked the question, “you are all here but where are your people, the constituent that you represent?”.

In defence, the councillors said, ‘We are very sorry for the inconvenience that happened’.

Member of Parliament for Beitbridge West Honourable Albert Nguluvhe responded to Minister Mavetera, stating, “You did not communicate in time for effective mobilisation of the people,” he said.

The Roving Digitalisation Expos aim to educate and benefit the local people from communities across the country , providing them with education and available opportunities courtesy of ICTs.

Furthermore, the ICT Expo will host an awards ceremony on November 28, 2024, at Rainbow Hotel Towers in Harare and nominations are now open.
