A Beitbridge couple, Joab Mpofu (31) and his wife Happiness Sibanda (20), will be spending the next two years behind bars after being convicted of unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.

The pair were handed down a 24-month effective prison sentence by the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court following their apprehension with 0.4kg of dagga  at Lutumba Business Centre, Beitbridge.

Circumstances are that detectives acted on a tip-off and found Sibanda packing dagga into sachets. A search revealed 55 sachets of loose dagga and empty packets. She named Mpofu as the owner, and more dagga was found in their bedroom.

Both were convicted of unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs and were each sentenced to 36 months, with 12 months suspended for good behavior.

This means that if they maintain a clean record during their time in prison, a year will be shaved off their total sentence.
