BEITBRIDGE’s newly graduated firefighters may have met with a real life scenario last week but they prevailed successfully.
Town Clerk Loud Ramakgapola said the firefighters were called for an emergency in Tshidixwa suburb and they successfully doused the blaze.
“The firefighters saved a house for Mr Godwin Machinguri at stand No 1128 Tshidixwa T/Ship (Medium Density) Ward 3,” he said in a brief response.
No explanations were given about what may have caused the fire but the mission was a huge success and the fire was doused.
Ward 3 Councillor Takavingei Mahachi praised the firemen and said they acted professionally and their reaction time was worth mention.
“I really want to appreciate the MOB Fire Brigade team for their response around 3am ,I was informed of a house which was on fire in my ward.I called Mr Maseko informing him about the fire, within seven (7) minutes they were at the house and managed to put out the fire,” said Mahachi.
“Only property which was in the room was destroyed,.I urge the Beitbridge community to report any emergency to the responsible service providers immediately they see or sense any danger,” he said.
Some of the firefighters are part of the 21 trained by the Airforce of Zimbabwe who graduated recently.
The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Albert Nguluvhe challenged them to win all fire challenges brought to them.
“You have the Airforce of Zimbabwe badge and you should make them proud by winning all fires,” he said during the graduation he presided over.
