The Municipality of Beitbridge, in partnership with the Veterinary Services Department, has announced a three-day mass rabies vaccination campaign targeting dogs and cats across the border town.
The initiative, scheduled to run from May 5 to May 7, 2026, will offer free vaccinations to all pets, as part of efforts to curb the spread of rabies and safeguard public health. Residents who require vaccination cards will be able to obtain them at a minimal fee of $1 or R20.
The Statement said the campaign will operate daily from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with multiple teams deployed across various suburbs and business centres to ensure accessibility for all residents.
On the first day, vaccination teams will be stationed at the Long Distance Bus Terminus near the Roman Catholic Church, Mashakada Business Centre, Tshitahudze Business Centre, and Beitbridge Government Primary School.
The second day will see teams moving to HaMbedzi and HaMangarha business centres, as well as Khwalu Suburb near Freeman Residence. On the final day, residents can access services in Mabidzi Suburb near Greenland Ministries Church, HaMudadu Business Centre in Madinginye, and OJ’s Business Centre in Tshidixwa.
The Statement said pet owners must cooperate with vaccination teams by ensuring that dogs are kept on leashes, with aggressive animals properly muzzled, while cats should be transported in secure carriers.
The campaign comes amid ongoing efforts to eliminate rabies, a deadly but preventable disease that poses a serious risk to both animals and humans.
Residents must take full advantage of the programme by bringing all dogs and cats for vaccination during the campaign period.
