POLICE at Beitbridge have arrested eight men suspected of being responsible for a series of robberies targeted at money changers and airtime vendors who lost thousands of dollars in different hits.
In a statement the national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Tinashe Nkomo alias Sadamu or Jeck (39), Future Moyo (35), Decent Moyo (35), Obey Chiware (38), Wiseman Muleya (30), Tendai Mapira (45), Khumbulani Mabhena (42) and Admire Charumbira (36) had been picked.
“On 21 August 2025, detectives from CID Beitbridge received information which linked Future Moyo to a robbery case which occurred on 27th July 2025 at a house in Garikai, Beitbridge where ZAR 15 000 and two cellphones were stolen from an airtime vendor. Subsequently, the suspect was arrested while selling airtime vouchers at a discounted rate,” said Nyathi.
“The suspect Implicated other suspects leading to their arrest. The arrest led to the recovery of a Girsan pistol charged with 36 live rounds of ammunition, the suspects’ getaway cars, a Honda Fit, registration number AEO 9989 and Toyota Probox, registration number AGT 7877 as well as airtime vouchers worth USD 310.00.”
Nyathi said the suspects were clearing nine robbery cases including one which occurred on July 1 2025 at a house at SDP New Stands area in Beitbridge where ZAR 4 000.00 and USD 3 000.00 cash as well as two cellphones were stolen.
They are also suspected of another robbery on 16 2025 at a shop in the same SDP area where ZAR 27 100.00 and USD 130.00 cash, two cellphones and shoes were stolen.
“The suspects are further linked to a case of robbery which occurred on 13th August 2025 at Dulibadzimu, Beitbridge where an airtime vendor was attacked before USD 1 200.00 and ZAR 2000.00 as well as airtime vouchers worth USD 2 500.00 were stolen and another case of robbery which occurred at a house at New Stands area, Beitbridge where ZAR 99 400.00 and USD 1 550.00 cash and a cellphone were stolen,” said
Nyathi in a widely circulated press statement.
