Beitbridge youths are set to carry out an awareness campaign against drug abuse on October 5th an initiative aimed a educate the community about the risks and consequences of drug abuse, prevent drug use before it starts as well as bringing attention to the need for effective policies and programs to combat drug abuse, advocating for better funding, prevention programs, and treatment facilities.
The youth want to walk from Mbedzi to Mashavire, underscoring the urgent need to address the growing issue of drug and substance abuse in the community.
Coordinated by local figures Patience Moyo, known as Mc Pashy, and Reverend Muzopa, the campaign seeks to mobilise the youth and the community to actively combat the rising tide of drug abuse that has become a significant concern nationwide.
In an interview with Ziyah News Network, Mc Pashy highlighted the importance of this march as a means to raise awareness among the youth.
“We are coming together to support Reverend Muzopa in his project advocating for the youth to stay away from drug lifestyles,” said Mc Pashy.
Charles Mbedzi, another youth advocate, emphasised the critical need for such campaigns, noting their role in helping young people resist the temptation of drugs.
“As a youth, I have seen how drugs and substances affect some of our colleagues; some even go to the extent of stealing money from their parents, I believe these campaigns will help educate and encourage our peers to stay away from harmful substances, like dagga.” Mbedzi explained.
Drug and substance abuse has rapidly escalated into a major concern affecting individuals, families, and communities across Zimbabwe.
The upcoming awareness campaign is part of a continuing effort, as more than four similar campaigns have been conducted in Beitbridge over the past nine months.
With the support of local leaders and the enthusiasm of the youth, this initiative is poised to make a significant impact in the fight against drug abuse, advocating for a healthier and drug-free future.
