Bindura-A 28 year old man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison by the Bindura Magistrates’ Court for a brutal axe attack on his ex-wife.
The incident occurred at a farm in Bindura, where the offender stormed into his ex-wife’s home armed with an axe.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the offender forced open the locked door and attacked his ex-wife while she was asleep with her daughter and sister.
He struck her multiple times with the axe, causing injuries to her left thigh, buttock, shoulder, ribs, and hip. The attack was only stopped when the victim’s mother disarmed him.
The court found the offender guilty of physical abuse under the Domestic Violence Act.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has appealed to the public to refrain from violent acts, citing that many murder cases arise from assaults.
The NPAZ advocates for peaceful resolution of disputes through mediation or professional counseling.
