HUNDREDS of white South African nationals crossed the border into Zimbabwe from their country through Beitbridge ahead of the June 30 civilian-led March and March, a showdown by self styled activists chasing foreign nationals out of their country.
A sea of white SA nationals in mostly all terrain vehicles thronged Beitbridge for holiday resorts and hunting camps in search for safety.
At daybreak officials at Beitbridge were met by hundreds of the white community members strongly believed to be deliberately avoiding anticipated civil unrest.
“They obviously planned their trips and want to stay away to allow things to settle. Most travelled as families,” a border official told Ziyah News Network.
“The whole border was white in the private motorists section as they completed formalities to travel,” said the official.
Public schools in South Africa are currently on holiday, their mid-year (winter) holiday began on Saturday, June 27, 2026, and classes will resume for Term 3 on Monday, July 21, 2026, something families may have also taken advantage of.
Regional Immigration Officer Joshua Chibundu confirmed there had been an increased number of that community, but would not link it with the planned March and March.
“Most just declared they were going on holiday,” said Chibundu.
March and March is a South African citizen advocacy and anti-immigration movement that campaigns against undocumented immigration, advocates for stricter border controls, and demands that the government prioritize SA citizens for public services.
The movement was founded in March 2025 by Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, a former radio presenter and although Pretoria speaks against it, and having mobilised and budgeted R600 million to crash it, international opinions believe they left it until a little too late.
Thousands of foreign nationals from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi and other countries who were in SA are already on a Great Trek north abandoning their jobs.
The current human upheaval is historic with thousands, mostly Malawians, stranded at Beitbridge where a humanitarian situation is loading.
