BEITBRIDGE – Bubye Valley Conservancy (BVC) has donated 50 blankets to Beitbridge District Hospital as part of its ongoing support for local health institutions.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, BVC Community Education and Engagement Manager, Collete Sayi, said the donation was part of the conservancy’s ongoing efforts to support local health institutions and improve the well-being of surrounding communities.

“Bubye Valley Conservancy invests massively in the communities that surround us in the fields of health, education, agriculture, and general livelihoods,” said Sayi.

He highlighted that several clinics within the district including Mtetengwe, Tongwe, Zezani, Chamunangana, Majini, and Makombe have benefited from the conservancy’s assistance.

Each clinic has received at least 18 beds, blankets, sheets, and utensils.

He said, BVC previously donated 100 mattresses to Beitbridge District Hospital and plans to provide an additional 50 mattresses in response to the hospital’s reported shortage of 150 beds.

“We are also donating in a similar vein to other districts. Mwenezi District Hospital in Neshuro, for instance, benefited from 100 beds from us,” he said.

“Today we are here to donate 50 blankets, and depending on the availability of funds, we plan to add another 50 to make them 100.”

Sayi said BVC enjoys a strong working relationship with Beitbridge District Hospital, which serves as a referral center for many of the conservancy’s patients.

“We are humbled by the services we receive from this hospital. In return, we continue to invest in improving its facilities,” he added.

“We are also focusing on improving Waiting Mothers’ Shelters in nearby clinics and, we intend to repair broken hospital furniture.”

She concluded that all these efforts are aimed at ensuring patients recover in a comfortable and dignified environment.

“Our goal is to improve the lives of patients. When they are in the hospital, they must actually recover from the conditions in which they are living,” he said.

Accepting the donation, District Health Services Administrator, Tatenda Jakachira, expressed gratitude for BVC’s continued support.

“The blankets are of good quality the particular type we require here at the hospital,” she said.

“They are user-friendly for our machines and very soft. The donation came at the right time, and we will make good use of them.”
