The Confederation of African Football has introduced significant changes to player registration rules for the CAF Champions league and Confederation cup.


In a statement,CAF confirmed that the amended law now allow footballers who have already played for one club in either the CAF Champions League and Confederation of Cup tournaments to be registered by another club in the same competition during the same.


“The Confederation of African Football, changes the player registration regulations of the CAF Champions league and Confederation cup to allow football clubs to register a player for CAF Champions league or Confederation cup who has participated in either of these CAF competitions for another football club, within the same football season…,” the CAF statement reads.


With this amendment, the CAF law is now aligned with the European standards of the UEFA Champions league and other top completions.


The ammendment of the regulation serves as a CAF strategy to enhance competitiveness, attract more fans, broadcasters and sponsors across the world, before the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 that will be held in America kick start in June.


Meanwhile, the CAF Executive Committee (CAF EXCO) has also extended the player registration deadline to 28 February 2025, giving clubs more time to strengthen their squads for the latter stages of the competitions.


CAF aims at improving the African Football into world class flawless competitions where much of the African talents display their uniqueness.
