Chapungu Football Club and Mambo FC have resolved the misunderstanding over a football kit that had become the subject of dispute between the two Gweru-based teams.

In a statement on Thursday dated November 6 , Chapungu Football Club said the issue regarding the football kit that was purportedly donated to Mambo FC by the club’s late Head Coach, Tawanda Marimo, had been amicably resolved.

“Chapungu Football Club wishes to inform all stakeholders, supporters, and the wider football community that the recent misunderstanding regarding the football kit purportedly donated to Mambo FC by our late Head Coach, Tawanda Marimo, has been amicably resolved,” Chapungu said in a statement.

Earlier this week, Chapungu FC had written a letter to Mambo FC requesting the return of the kit.

The letter, dated November 4, 2025, and signed by Chapungu FC chairman and Deputy Base Commander at Josiah Tungamirai Air Base, Group Captain Mahlangu, said the kit was donated without the approval of Chapungu FC and the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

“Reference to our telephone conversation regarding the issue of kit donated to your club by our late Head Coach Tawanda Marimo, a request is being made to your esteemed office for the kit to be returned back to Chapungu FC since it was donated to your club without Chapungu FC and Air Force of Zimbabwe approval,” read part of the correspondence.

The communication carried an official Air Force of Zimbabwe stamp, reinforcing the club’s position that the kit remained Chapungu property.

In its latest statement, Chapungu FC said it regretted any discomfort or negative perceptions that may have arisen from the matter and reiterated that it held the late Coach Marimo in high regard.

“Chapungu FC holds the late Coach Marimo in the highest esteem and continues to honor his contributions to the club and Zimbabwean football at large,” said Chapungu.

Chapungu said it is committed to maintain good relations with Mambo FC and the local football community.

“We value the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect that exist between Chapungu FC, Mambo FC, and the broader Mambo community.”
