Chipezeze’s heroics helped his team defeat the Brazilians by 2-1 to be crowned the 2024 Carling knockout Cup Champions.
Following his stunning performance in his first appearance in the Carling knockout cup against Orlando Pirates, Elvis Chipezeze has been voted the man of the match in every match until the final against Sundowns at the Free State stadium, Bloemfontein.
After being crowned the Carling Knockout champions and winning his quadruple player of the match award Chipezeze highlighted the importance of the achievement and the victory of the team.
“Firstly I want to thank the fans who came out here in Bloemfontein to support and witness us playing nice football. I am just grateful that they are happy and this people pay their money to come watch us play .we had to return the favor to them ,thus the most important thing to me… its part of my job ,I’m paid to come and save goals not concede goals ,as much as I’m disappointed with goal I conceded but I’m just grateful that we stayed within the game plan and it really worked for us and its history for us coming into the competition and winning it,” an ecstatic Chipezeze stated.
The former Chicken Inn and Baroka FC goalie‘s team Magesi are debutants in South Africa’s Betway premiership, and their win in the final will go down as one of the biggest shocks in South African football history. Chipezeze stole the whole show with a stellar performance after his team came from one nil down to winning the match by 2-1 against continental heavy weights giants Sundowns.
The Magesi skipper’s saves, alongside his countrymen Edmore Chirambadare‘s two assists for, Delano Abrahams and Tshepo Kakora’s goals led the Limpopo side, Dikwena tsa Metsi to their maiden trophy.
