The Chitungwiza Municipality has urged homeowners and businesses with unapproved durawalls to visit council offices for regularization.
This move aims to address concerns over boundary violations and ensure compliance with local regulations.
In a notice released yesterday, the municipality emphasized the importance of adhering to established guidelines, urging individuals with durawalls not within their designated boundaries to revert to original property pegs.
To encourage compliance, the municipality is waiving the US$200 penalty fee for each approval stage for those who act before the deadline of February 28, 2025. Instead, homeowners will only need to pay a reduced approval fee of US$150.
Compliance is crucial to maintaining the integrity of our municipality,” read part of the notice.
Council authorities have made it clear that if compliance is not achieved within the specified time frame, the municipality will proceed with the demolition of non-compliant durawalls, with the costs of demolition to be borne by the property owners.
Residents are encouraged to take prompt action to regularize their durawalls and avoid penalties or potential demolition.
