The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) celebrated its achievements in revenue collection and economic growth, recognizing the strides made by the Customs Division in recent years during the commemoration of the annual World Customs Day in Harare yesterday.
This year’s theme, “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security and Prosperity,” highlighted the efforts of customs divisions in enhancing their effectiveness.
During her speech, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) Commissioner General Ms. Regina Chinamasa spotlighted the pivotal role that customs authorities play in maintaining national and global economic stability.
“Today, customs administrations across 174 WCO member countries process more than 98% of all international trade, making our work vital to the global economy,” she remarked.
The Commissioner further expressed pride in ZIMRA’s accomplishments in bolstering revenue collection, stating that the authority successfully collects over 95% of the national revenues that finance essential government functions.
“Our work is not merely regulatory; it is a cornerstone of our nation’s stability. The funds we collect support critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development,” she explained.
By highlighting these achievements, the Commissioner emphasized the far-reaching implications of customs work on everyday life in Zimbabwe.
“Without these revenues, the very fabric of our society would be at risk,” she warned.
The World Customs Day event served to recognize the collaborative efforts of customs professionals in enhancing trade facilitation while ensuring compliance and security.
