THE Zimbabwe Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has publicly distanced himself from the planned mass demonstration scheduled for 17 October 2025.
In a statement on Thursday, Chiwenga condemned the organisers of the planned protest, labelling them enemies of progress who are bent on destabilising Zimbabwe’s peace and security.
Chiwenga said the protest is unauthorised and illegal thus it will be met with swift law enforcement action.
“I distance myself completely from those behind it and from anyone associated with such reckless behaviour,” said Chiwenga.
“I neither support nor condone any act that threatens national peace, security, or unity.”
Chiwenga also said he is aware of messages circulating across various platforms calling for mass action, but dismissed the planned demonstration as unauthorised and illegal.
“The Government of Zimbabwe will not tolerate any attempts to destabilise the peace and security that our people have worked so hard to maintain,” he said.
He further warned anyone found promoting, organising, or participating in the protest would be arrested and prosecuted.
“Any person found organising, promoting, or participating in these illegal activities will be arrested and prosecuted without hesitation,” Chiwenga said.
“The long arm of the law will catch up with all those bent on fermenting chaos and justice will be swift.”
Chiwenga said Zimbabweans should remain vigilant and not be swayed by elements whose sole agenda is to cause instability and tarnish the image of our country.
He said security forces are on high alert to deal decisively with any threats to peace and order.
“Law enforcement agencies are on full alert and will act decisively to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and uphold the authority of the State and His Excellency Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa.”
“Let us remain steadfast, vigilant, and committed to safeguarding the hard won peace and stability of our nation.” Chiwenga said.
