Beitbridge Women’s Quota Councillor Brenda Maworere has advised women on the need to be wary of breast cancer as the world observes the Pink October, the global campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Maworere reminded attendees of the Beitbridge mid-term budget review, held on Tuesday at the MOB Council Chamber, that October is observed annually to promote awareness, encourage early detection, reduce health risks, and support those affected.
“Pink October reminds us about the importance of early detection, education, and support in the fight against breast cancer a disease that affects many women and families in our communities,” she said.
Maworere encouraged women to go for regular breast screenings and practice self-examinations, pointing out that early detection can save lives.
She also spoke about the need to support those currently battling cancer and honour survivors who continue to inspire others.
“We must also celebrate the strength of survivors and offer support to those still fighting,” she added.
She further called on all community members and leaders to take an active role in spreading awareness and supporting programs that promote access to testing and treatment.
“As stakeholders, we have a role to play,” said Maworere. “Let’s wear pink with purpose, stand in solidarity, and help save lives through action.”
After her address, the council concluded the mid-term budget review discussion
