Following its successful response to the recent Beitbridge bus accident, where it transported injured victims for further treatment, Discovery Ambulances has established a base in Beitbridge.
Driven by the apparent need exposed in the aftermath of the tragic accident, Discovery Ambulances has brought state-of-the-art ambulances with a larger carrying capacity, equipped with ancillary equipment supporting ICU services.
Elliot Chivige, Practitioner in Charge at Discovery Ambulances, revealed that the tragic accident last month prompted the CEO, David Munowenyu, to facilitate the setup of a base in the town and district.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility, our CEO, David Munowenyu, dispatched us to Beitbridge, where we transported five patients for specialized treatment in Harare,” Chivige explained. “That tragic accident highlighted the need for ambulances in Beitbridge, and we have now set up base here. We will have two ambulances stationed here, including a Disaster Management Ambulance designed by our CEO in response to the numerous disasters in the country.”
“This ambulance has a carrying capacity of five people in an ICU setup, with oxygen and ventilators, accompanied by doctors, nurses, and paramedics,” Chivige added.
As Discovery Ambulances rolls out its services in the Beitbridge district, it is partnering with local medical practitioners, including Dr. Chagonda, Dr. Chipfere, Dr. Maketo, Dr. Tshuma, and Beitbridge Hospital.
The establishment of Discovery Ambulances in the disaster-prone district is expected to improve health provision, especially in cases of unforeseen calamities.
The health concern has also introduced a subscription system for the community, where adults and children pay $2 and $1 per month, respectively, allowing them access to ambulance services when needed.
