President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dismissed Sthembiso Gile Gladys Nyoni from her role as Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, effective immediately.
The announcement was made in an official statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet, dated April 3, 2025, though no reason was given for her removal.
“His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Dr E D Mnangagwa, has in terms of section 340, subsection (1), paragraph (f), as read with section 108, subsection (1) paragraph (a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, removed Sithembiso Gile Gladys Nyoni from the position of Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife with immediate effect,” read the statement.
No official reason was provided why Mnangagwa fired Sithembiso Nyoni from her position as Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife.
Nyoni’s dismissal comes as Mnangagwa faces mounting political pressure amid calls for his resignation, internal party factions mobilizing against him, and widespread public unrest over economic issues and corruption.
Political analysts suggest this could signify internal purges as the president attempts to consolidate power.
Nyoni, a veteran politician seen as a stabilizing force within the cabinet, is the latest in a series of high-profile exits that raise concerns about the stability of Mnangagwa’s administration including the removal of ex police chief Godwin Matanga, ex CIO DIG Isaac Moyo and the recent retiring of commander Zimbabwe National Army Ancelem Sanyatwe.
