A 40-year-old Beitbridge man has been sentenced to do 280 hours of community service for assaulting his girlfriend who came late for a date and found him busy with another woman.

Ernest Bvunzawabaya appeared before Magistrate Mbonisi Kaweni on Wednesday this week facing charges of Domestic Violence and physical abuse.

The court heard that on June 14, 2026, Bvunzawabaya calles his girlfriend, 32-year-old Praise Majakara, for a quality time his residence Tshidixwa suburb of Beitbridge.

When she arrived but a bit late Majakara found his man Bvunzawabaya had substituted him and was busy with another woman.

An argument reportedly ensued, during which Bvunzawabaya became violent.

Prosecutor Victor Gorejena told the court that, Bvunzawabaya struck Majakara once on the face with an iron bar before following her outside and punching her several times on the head.

The beating left Majakara with a swollen eye and forehead.

She later reported the matter to the police and was referred to Beitbridge General Hospital for medical examination.

Bvunzawabaya was subsequently arrested and brought before the courts.

After considering the circumstances of the case, Kaweni sentenced Bvunzawabaya to 280 hours of community service, which he will perform at St Joseph Primary School.
