The Department of Education in Beitbridge has raised concern over the alarming rise in illegal schools operating in the border town.

In a meeting with the government stakeholders and Zanu PF party, Molao Stoboli representing Ministry of Education highlighted that in a joint operation with officers and municipality of Beitbridge, they uncovered several unregistered schools operating in town which critically compromises the education curriculum and children ‘s safety.

“There are citizens who are now turning homes into unregistered schools here in town. Some turn churches into secondary schools and we have been giving notices for them to close down their operations. We urge parents not send their kids to unregistered schools and we also urge individuals who want to have schools, to come and formally register the schools into the system because the number of illegal schools operating here, is alarming indeed,” Sitoboli stated.

The Beitbridge municipality also highlighted that the municipality has since put some of these illegal schools on notice in order to restore the sanity of education in town.

Several stakeholders including Beitbridge East constituency MP Albert Nguluvhe also supported the move to take extreme measures to tackle the issue of unregistered schools in town.
