Beitbridge – A 38-year-old man from Epworth, Harare, has been sentenced to five years in prison, with six months suspended, for possession and trafficking of dangerous drugs.

Jaison Makwarimba was convicted at Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court after being caught with 7.3 kilograms of dagga, valued at USD 731, at the Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus on 24 June 2025. Authorities say Makwarimba was attempting to send the drugs to Harare when he tried to flee the scene, leaving behind both his passport and the illegal substance. He was subsequently arrested.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA) emphasized that drug trafficking is a serious crime that destroys lives and will not be tolerated.

“This conviction sends a strong message that those involved in the trade of dangerous drugs will face the full force of the law,” the NPA stated.
