As police in the Limpopo province continue intensifying their efforts to curb rampant crime in the transit region, members of Beitbridge Port of entry (POE) seized a suspected stolen vehicle and arrested a 36 year old foreign national in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to SAPS communication to the media, the suspected was apprehended by police who were doing their routine stop and search on the busy N1 highway when he failed to produce proof of ownership of the vehicle in question.

“The motor vehicle was driven by a 36 year-old male who was asked about the driver’s license, identity document and proof of ownership of the motor vehicle but he failed to produce them. The motor vehicle was searched and police discovered three different number plates with Gauteng province registrations.”

“Afterwards, the members of the Vehicle Inspection and Safe Guarding Unit (VIS) were summoned to the scene and positively identified the motor vehicle as stolen from the rightful owner at Kwa-Thema Policing area in Gauteng province during the month of July 2024.”

The suspect was also found to be in South Africa illegally adding a further charge on his sheet.

“Upon further investigation, police discovered that the suspect was in the country illegally and a charge of contravention of Immigration Act was also added while the suspected stolen motor vehicle seized during the arrest.”

The suspect is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate Court today.
