FORMER Border Strikers coach Saul Chaminuka has been appointed as the new head coach for TelOne following the departure of Herbert Maruwa.

The club confirmed the appointment on Wednesday.

The former ZPC Kariba FC gaffer takes over the reins at the WiFi Boys with immediate effect as the club seeks to stabilize its campaign in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.

Maruwa parted ways with TelOne last week after a difficult run of results.

In a statement announcing the appointment, TelOne said Chaminuka is a vastly experienced coach with a proven tactical record, expressing confidence that he will help build a competitive side capable of challenging among the league’s top teams.

Chaminuka arrives at TelOne carrying extensive experience from both club and national team football.

He previously coached ZPC Kariba and earned recognition for guiding the club to competitive finishes in the top flight despite operating with limited resources.

His disciplined and organized approach made him one of the respected tacticians in domestic football circles.

The veteran coach also served as assistant coach of the Zimbabwe national football team, commonly known as the Warriors, where he worked with several senior national team setups.

His involvement with the national side exposed him to high-level competition and strengthened his reputation as a knowledgeable and development-oriented coach.

Over the years, Chaminuka has built a reputation for emphasizing defensive solidity, tactical discipline and player development.

His appointment is expected to bring stability to TelOne as the club looks to improve results and climb the league standings during the remainder of the season.

TelOne will now be hoping the experienced coach can quickly turn around the team’s fortunes and usher in a new era for the Gweru-based side in the highly competitive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Chaminuka had a stint with Beitbridge outfit Border Strikers when it was in the Premier League during a once off dance.
