Former deputy finance minister David Chapfika died in a car crash on Thursday morning with his vehicle plunging into a river as a result of the crash. He was 68.
According to the reports, the incident took place on the Harare-Shamva Road near Stondon Empire Farm in Goromonzi, with the tragic accident occurring near Chabwino, at the bridge popularly known as ‘Pabridge paStondon.’
Chapfika was reportedly driving a Mercedes-Benz ML when it collided with another vehicle, veered off the bridge, and overturned, landing upside down in a river.
Chapfika served as Deputy Minister of Finance under the late President Robert Mugabe’s administration.
He also served as a legislator for Mutoko South and chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Finance and Economic Development.
