Harare — Four people died in a horrific head-on collision along the Harare–Chirundu Road on Sunday afternoon, police have confirmed.

The accident occurred at the 103km peg around 4:00pm on 17 August when a Mazda 3, travelling towards Chinhoyi with three passengers on board, collided with a Howo Sino Truck coming from the opposite direction.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the impact left three of the Mazda 3 occupants trapped inside the mangled vehicle, while the fourth passenger was thrown out. All four died instantly.

“The bodies of the victims were referred to Banket Hospital for post-mortem examination,” police said in a statement.

Authorities have since urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the country’s highways, particularly on major routes such as the Harare–Chirundu Road, which has recorded several fatal accidents in recent years.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and investigations into the exact circumstances of the crash are underway.
