The simmering innuendos of internal strife within the revolutionary party ZANU PF have been exposed as Party spokesperson Cde Christopher Mutsvagwa has came out guns blazing on Information and Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere for usurping party protocol.
In a letter addressed to Muswere Mutsvangwa cautioned the Government mouth piece for taking a lead on party matters that are otherwise the purview of the employees at Zanu PF headquarters.
The ZANU PF spokesperson took exception to Muswere allowing ZBC and the Herald to announce results of the Manicaland Provincial Women’s League elections before the party had ratified the results.
“It has come to the attention of the Department that you allowed the announcement of Women’s League election results in Provincial Elections held in Manicaland on the ZBC 8pm news of the 6th of April 2025 as well as the Herald of the 7th of April 2025. This was before ratified the elections and formally announce them,” said Mutsvagwa laying the basis for calling Muswere’s behavior for r disregarding laid down party procedure.
He went on to highlight the impact of what he called irregular announcement okayed by the Minister.
“The announcement was irregular and and intended to pre-empt the due electoral provisions and procedures of the Party. The other motive was to upend standard internal consultations with the Party leadership in accordance with the Party constitution and tenets.” he adds.
The firebrand Mutsvagwa who is known to be abrasive, condemned the announcement made by the two media outlets branding them of no consequence, asserting his department will announce the correct and proper position once finalised.
The latest tug of war between senior members within the ruling party does little to quell rumours of a party in turmoil, split by the contentious issue of extending incumbent Emmerson Mnangagwa’s reign as President of Zimbabwe. There has been purges within the party with suspensions and expulsion being dolled out in a manner synonymous to the infamous 2017 purges that led to operation restore legacy which birthed the second republic.
It renaus to be seen how the ruling party which has survived so many internal leadership contestations even before independence, will navigate the latest high profile fallout over a key decision which has implications on the constitution of the country.
