BEITBRIDGE schools are set to benefit from the Government’s announcement to fill 3,000 teaching posts nationwide, a move aimed at reducing learner-to-teacher ratios and improving the quality of education across the country.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerai Moyo said the recruitment drive will mainly target vacancies created through staff attrition, including retirements, dismissals, resignations, and transfers between districts and provinces.
The exercise has already been authorised and will begin next week, ensuring schools are adequately staffed and learning continues without disruption.
“We have teachers who may be dismissed, others who opt for early retirement, and some who transfer between districts or provinces. These movements create vacancies that need to be filled. For such attrition posts, we do not need to wait for Treasury concurrence because the approval is already in place. This means starting next week, we will begin recruiting teachers to fill the gaps created by staff movements across schools for various reasons. Our goal is to ensure continuity in learning,” said Minister Moyo.
The recruitment is part of the Government of Zimbabwe’s broader education reforms aimed at strengthening human capital development and improving learning outcomes in line with the country’s Vision 2030 agenda.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Beitbridge District Schools Inspector, Mr Mbofholoho Muleya, welcomed the initiative, highlighting the benefits for local schools.
“Like all other districts, there are shortages in our schools. The procedure is such that ‘02s’, meaning local candidates, are given preference,” he said.
This is a great opportunity for Beitbridge to strengthen its teaching workforce and improve learning in school.
With schools preparing to reopen in the coming weeks, the recruitment drive is expected to provide much-needed relief for teachers and learners alike, ensuring that classrooms are fully staffed and students receive quality education.
