Police in Chegutu have arrested a 52-year-old woman, Veronica Mudzipuri, in connection with the murder of her four-year-old granddaughter, Tawanayasha Kadhene, in Shurugwi.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in an official statement on their X account, Mudzipuri, who is an artisanal miner, allegedly administered a maize pesticide pill into the victim’s maheu drink. The statement further alleges that the suspect cut flesh from the child’s cheek, mixed it with herbs prescribed by a traditional healer (sangoma), then cooked and consumed the mixture.
The case is under investigation, and police have assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to bring the perpetrator to justice.
The ZRP has urged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that may threaten the safety of children.
