A 32 year old police officer stationed in Gwanda has been convicted for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs after dagga was recovered from his room at police premises.

The case comes just after a Beitbridge regional court remanded another Gwanda policeman in custody for being found with large quantities of dagga.

In a statement on Monday , the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said Knowledge Maposa was sentenced by the Gwanda Magistrate’s Court to pay a US$300 fine or serve three months in prison in default of payment.

The case arose from events on December 29 2025 when police detectives in Gwanda received information that a police officer was keeping dangerous drugs inside his room located within police premises.

Acting on the information officers carried out a search the following day.

The search resulted in the recovery of dagga valued at ZiG120, as well as a J-pipe used for smoking crystal methamphetamine.

NPAZ said Maposa was arrested at the scene and later charged.

The case comes at a time when concerns are growing over drug abuse involving individuals entrusted with enforcing the law, raising questions about discipline and accountability within institutions that communities look up to for protection and moral leader
