A 34 year old Gwanda woman has been sentenced to 12 months in prison, with 6 months suspended for 5 years, after being convicted of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.She will serve 6 months in prison effectively.

The Gwanda Magistrates’ Court handed down the sentence after the woman was found with 73 satchets of dagga, weighing 0.26kg, worth ZWG 2,600.

According to reports, detectives who were on deployment at Blanket Mine compound received information to the effect that the offender was in possession of dagga.

Acting on the supplied information they proceeded to the offender’s place of residence and introduced themselves before stating the purpose of their visit.
The offender led the detectives to her room and voluntarily took a blue plastic bag containing 73 satchets of dagga and handed it over to the detectives. She also gave them 3 more satchets she had with her.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug possession and trafficking in Zimbabwe.
