Chief Marupi of Dililashaba in Gwanda South has passed away at the young age of 28, making him the youngest chief in the Gwanda district.
Chief Marupi, born Oaheng Nare on February 26, 1996, had recently been the victim of an armed robbery at his homestead. In the incident, which occurred just weeks before his death, thieves stole his brand-new Isuzu double-cab vehicle, a gift from President Emmerson Mnangagwa, along with R2,700 in cash and two mobile phones.
Gwanda district coordinator, Ms. Nomathemba Ndlovu, confirmed the news of Chief Marupi’s death, stating, “The traditional leader died at Health Point hospital in Harare yesterday evening after a short illness.”
Chief Marupi succeeded his father, Mr. Lawrence Nare, who passed away in 2008. He was installed as chief in 2012 while still a minor, with the understanding that he would officially assume his duties in 2014 upon reaching the age of 18.
The loss of Chief Marupi is a significant blow to the community of Gwanda South, where he was seen as a promising leader dedicated to the welfare of his people.
