The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer commanding Harare Central District, Chief Superintendent Masvivi, has issued a prohibition order banning the carrying of certain weapons in Harare Central District.

The order, effective from today March 27 to May 26 , 2025, applies to areas including Mbare, Braeside, Marimba, Borrowdale, Churchill Road, Chikurubi Maximum Prison, and Robert Mugabe Airport.

The items that are prohibited include catapults, machetes, axes, knobkerries, swords, knives, daggers and also traditional weapons likely to cause public disorder or breach of peace.

The ZRP has issued a strong warning to the public that anyone found with these items will be imprisoned or pay fine or both.

“Anyone found carrying these items in public places, thoroughfares, or displaying them publicly will be guilty of an offense. The penalties include a fine not exceeding Level 5 or imprisonment for six months, or both”

The ZRP has warned that failure to comply with this order will result in severe consequences.

The ban comes just days before protests called by war veteran Blessed Geza, who has demanded that President Emmerson Mnangagwa resigns.
