The New Start Centre in Masvingo, a vital healthcare facility providing critical services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, has been abruptly shut down due to unforeseen circumstances.

The centre’s sudden closure, effective immediately, has sparked widespread anxiety and concerns among the community.

Sources reveal that the halt in funding from USAID (United States Agency for International Development) has contributed to the centre’s closure.

The move comes as President Donald Trump’s administration intensifies efforts to dismantle USAID, a key provider of foreign aid to various countries, including Zimbabwe.

The centre’s closure is being seen as an ominous sign, fueling fears that Zimbabwe is already feeling the pinch of Trump’s policies.

A notice, written in Shona, Ndebele, and English, has been posted at the centre, stating that patients requiring ART or PrEP refills should proceed to their nearest health facility for assistance.

“Please note that the New Start Centre is temporarily closed. For those due for ART or PrEP refills, please proceed to Your Nearest Health Facility, for assistance. Thank you for your understanding,” the notice reads.

The closure of the New Start Centre is a blow to the community, particularly those living with HIV/AIDS who rely on the centre for life-saving services.
