The Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services has officially launched the Zimbabwe Digital Skills Program , a pivotal initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s digital capabilities and contributing to the national Vision 2030 goals.

The program, developed in partnership with the United Arab Emirates Government through the Government Experience Exchange Program, seeks to equip 1.5 million young Zimbabweans with essential digital skills.

“This program is not just an educational initiative; it is a crucial step towards realizing our collective dream of a prosperous, inclusive, and technologically advanced nation,” Minister Mavetera stated.

The Digital Skills Program will focus on training participants in four key areas: Data Science Fundamentals, Programming Fundamentals, Android Kotlin Developer Fundamentals, and AI Fundamentals. These courses are designed to provide the youth with the necessary tools to thrive in an increasingly digital world, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

“In today’s global economy, digital skills are the new currency. They are vital for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.By equipping our young people with these skills, we are not only enhancing their employability but also fostering a culture of creativity and problem-solving that will drive our nation forward,”” Minister Mavetera noted.

The initiative builds on the Digital Skills Ambassadors Program, which was launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in February 2025, aiming to further stimulate digital literacy across the nation.

Mavetera expressed gratitude to the UAE Government for their continuous support, emphasizing the significance of international cooperation in achieving these ambitious goals. She also called upon local companies to collaborate with the government in promoting digital literacy and skills development.

“This partnership exemplifies the spirit of cooperation and mutual growth that we aspire to achieve,” she said.

The program is set to involve multiple departments and Ministries, including the E-Government Unit, the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, and the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development, with plans for further collaboration as it rolls out.

Minister Mavetera also urged the youth to seize this opportunity, stating, “The future is digital, and your potential is limitless. This program is designed to equip you with the skills to become innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders in the digital landscape.”

The Zimbabwe Digital Skills Program signals a bold step towards a modernized economy, reinforcing the country’s commitment to nurturing a skilled workforce for a prosperous future.
